Charlotte Symphony Orchestra: Classics Series VIII
This concert from the Charlotte Symphony’s 2012-2013 Classics Series season revels in the lush textures of the French musical impressionists Debussy and Ravel, with contributions from Gabriel Fauré and Erik Satie for good measure. The concert opens with Debussy’s landmark orchestral prelude, then welcomes superstar pianist Pascal Rogé for Ravel’s jazz-age concerto. Rogé then favors the audience with a Satie encore. In the second part of the program, Fauré’s beloved Pavane is followed by Debussy’s symphonic masterpiece. Then the orchestra provides an encore of the same Satie Gymnopédie, but this time in the Debussy orchestration with a different number.
