Union Symphony: 'Jazz in Stride'

Richard-Rosenberg-250On this edition of the program, under the direction of distinguished conductor Richard Rosenberg, the Union County, North Carolina Symphony Orchestra presents a jazz-flavored program from October of 2013 from the Batte [BAT] Center at Wingate University. The concert opens with a suite from Kurt Weill’s musical collaboration with Bertolt Brecht, The Threepenny Opera, and closes with Ferde Grofé’s evocative suite inspired by the Grand Canyon. In between, Charlotte-based ragtime pianist Ethan Uslan [YOOS – luhn] plays an arrangement of music by stride pianist James P. Johnson, as well as George Gershwin’s famous breakthrough piece, Rhapsody in Blue.
