Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser

sp11-WEB-leiser-caurier-headshot-150Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser are co-directors of the 2011 Spoleto Festival USA's production of The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflote). This marks the duo's eighth production for Spoleto Festival USA, following Salome (1987), Rusalka (1988), L'incoronazione di Poppea (1991), Wozzeck (1997), Jenufa (1998), Iphigenie en Tauride (2000), and Aufstieg und Fall deer Stadt Mahagonny (2007).

Caurier and Leiser first worked together on staging Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Opera de Lyon in 1983. Since then, they have directed more than 90 productions in the world's finest opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and the Zurich Opera House. Their productions have brought them together with conductors Mark Elder, Valery Gergiev, Armin Jordan, Louis Langree, Antonio Pappano, Carlo Rizzi, and Emmanual Villaume, among many others.

For their film of Ravel's opera L'enfant et les sortileges, Caurier and Leiser were awarded the Fipa d'Or award for best classical music film at the Cannes Film Festival. Caurier and Leiser recently directed Falstaff for the Angers-Nantes Opera and will stage Handel's Giulio Cesare at the Salzburg Festival in 2012.
