Osvaldo Golijov

sp11-WEB-osvaldo-golijov-annex-150Osvaldo Golijov is a Grammy-award winning composer and the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship. He has been composer-in-residence for Merkin Hall in New York, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Music Alive Series, Marlboro Music, Ravinia and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Golijov’s notable works include a one-act opera, Ainadamar (Fountain of Tears), commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra; a set of folksongs, Ayre, featuring Dawn Upshaw and commissioned by Carnegie Hall; La Pasión según San Marcos, commissioned by Helmuth Rilling for the European Music Festival to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s death; and the cantata Oceana, recorded by Brazilian jazz singer Luciana Souza and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Spano.

Recent and upcoming projects include an orchestral commission honoring Henry Fogel, a work for Emanuel Ax and Dawn Upshaw, a violin concerto for Leonidas Kavakos, and a Metropolitan Opera commission for premiere in 2014.
